Fluency Testing

Attention parents! Attention parents! I am looking for a parent to come in once or twice a week in mornings from 9:45-12:20 to give reading fluency tests to students. If you can do this please respond, email me or call the school. Thank you.

Mt. Everest

We are reading On Top of the World this week. It's a story about Mt. Everest and the first two climbers (Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay) to reach the top. How did they persevere? Why do people climb Mt. Everest? Would you ever try and climb Mt. Rainer? Let's hear from you!

Idioms, not Idiots

Today, our class learned about idioms in our reading and writing workbook. We are going to make posters of phrases of the actual sayings on one side and then on the other, we are going to draw what they mean.
Our A. R. program is up and running now so students can take comprehension tests from the story they read and receive points for how many questions they get right. Students should be reading at least 20 minutes a night. Each month, we have a book report they have to present to the class. This month, the students need to read a fiction book.

Back to School Night

Thursday, September 20^th is our “Back to School Night.” There will be two sessions -5:30-6:00 and 6:00-6:30. The format and information covered will be identical to the open house we had on September 4^th. If you are able to attend, I will be in the room that evening and you are welcome to stop by. Wolves in the Classroom

We are starting "Amaroq, the Wolf" this week in reading. We went through our vocabulary words today and we have 16 spelling words for this week.

We are writing our district writing assessment paragraphs, which we started today. Carly is having a good time reading in Geography, where we are learning about our world. I don't know if Fini is having a good time though. :)

Perseverance

Have you had an important goal that you worked on to achieve? Has persevering helped you reach a goal? Please share.

This is a picture of my son trying to persevere playing golf like many people have in the world! We start this unit on perseverance this week and we will begin by reading the story "The Fire Builder" in our Open Court series.

On Wednesday, the students get out at 12:00 to have the option of going to "Do the Puyallup" at the Puyallup Fair. Enjoy!

Great First Two Days

We have had a great first two days at school. I am enjoying this class a lot and can see this will be a great year. What do you think 6th graders?
